Worst trip ever - I'm writing this from DFW Airport... at 1:40am... let me tell you how this began.
So on Sunday the 8th, my flight left late from Austin for Chicago O'Hare airport where my connecting flight would bring me to Minneapolis. Since my flight was late, I missed my connecting flight, and was thus stuck in Chicago for 18 hours, with me traveling straight for over 24 hours. I finally arrived in my Minneapolis/Bloomington hotel room at about 2:00pm on the 9th. Most of the week goes by fine, as I'm attending an Avaya ACM Basic Admin course that I've been really wanting to take.
The Avaya ACM Basic Admin course is awesome, although I think I'm by far the youngest person in the class, by an easy 10 years. Ulysses from Denver, Jon from Iowa, & I went to a virtual golf course that was an odd experience in its own way. Since it was virtual, it was just this 20' x 20' booth with a projector screen and sensors that detected your ball path. Right outside the booth there are tables where you can booze it up. It just wasn't right, but if you had to, you could get the need to whack at your balls out (teehee!).
Thursday rolls around and I find out that I'm going to be needing a car because the hotel shuttle won't roll to the Airport on Friday in time for me to get there, so I contacted my location of Work to get approval to rent a rental car. Since its the company's dollar, I told them a compact would do. When they I finally get to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, they didn't have any compacts left, so they gave me an option of just paying $5 more and I could rent an '07 Infiniti G35... which doesn't sound like much, but it is by far the best thing to happen to me this week thus far.
I also got to hang out with an old coworker who goes by Gina. She took me to Oldtown, which is this cool eclectic part of Minneapolis. There, we found Katie's "cute" gift (I got Katie a bunch of stuff while I was up here) at some place called MyHouse or MyHome or something along those lines. We had dinner at some place called "Aura" that was located in the mall we were in, and although it was good, what caught our attention was their sign - "Happy Hour: 4pm - Midnight". We then hit up The Independent, which is apparently one of the two bars in Minneapolis that has a balcony. We pretty much bitched about how overworked with current projects about our respective jobs, Wes Anderson Movies (Life Aquatic sucks though!), delved into philosophy a tad bit (She now knows why I always bash St. Aquinas) and praised how cool our, (well, her former) CEO's executive assistance Marcia is.
Friday rolls around, and my flight is now fucked by the massive storm that covered middle America. My flight is delayed out of Minneapolis to DFW for 2 hours, and when I finally got here, I find that my flight to Austin is cancelled. Now here I am, at 2:23am, figuring out how I'm going to kill a couple of hours.
Now that I'm sitting here, I'm thinking about when I ate my really late dinner. I walked into the TGI Friday's here inside the DFW terminals, and 5 minutes later, a young couple walk in, the woman being pregnant. Those bastards at Friday's were all bitching about closing, and there is this pregnant lady who said that they haven't had anything to eat in over 8 hours. Anyway, I gave them remaining half of my sandwich and fries. Just now I saw some flight attendants bring in some blankets, and I saw several people hogging more blankets than they needed. Selfish bastards. I did manage to steal one and placed it on the sleeping woman who managed to find a cot (I saw her freezing earlier, as one of the few places to place a cot was right under an AC Vent). It reminded me of what Gina was talking about her current coworkers - they're kinda cutthroat and all out for themselves. I think it kinda sucks how that everyone here is stuck in a desperate situation - all the hotels are full, and we're all sleeping in an airport. Dunno, I'm just getting this Katrina feeling.
